Family Support helps Birks to Seventh Win of 2015

PERDUE, Saskatchewan -- John Birks has joined his son Josh in Canada for the past couple weeks to take in a few bull ridings and spend some time together.

In the time span, Birks has been on a roll.

"Every association I’m in I’ve won (an event in) and that’s the goal," Birks said of wins in Invermere, BC; the inaugural PBR in Czar, AB and Saturday's Bull Riders Canada event in Perdue, SK. "Dad’s usually an omen. I usually fall off every time my family is around here, so it feels good to get that off their back."

John Birks heads home to Australia on Monday and Josh keeps his focus on winning the BRC National Championship come October. Birks has an uphill battle to do so, but he's doing everything he can to catch first place Brian Hervey.

"He’s making hard work for an old fella," Birks said after triple-entering both Longview and Perdue. "Well I’m 25 but I feel like I’m 30 now after getting on them bulls."

With entries on the lower side of things due to a high number of rodeos going on at the same time, a bull rider may enter as many times as he sees fit. He can potentially win first, second and third. It's a test on a man's body and it's what Birks has to do to overcome the 1,195 point deficit he faces.

His motivation remains however.

"Honestly I think BRC is gonna be the biggest thing in Canada. To come through to have an early win and a title on that could make you a legend on the day," Birks finished.

In Perdue, Birks was the only man to ride two bulls earning him $4,075 in the process. That cash envelope pushes his season earnings past $25,000 on the year, further setting a new precedent for money earned in one campaign.

All time in the BRC, Birks jumped past Hervey for money won. Birks sits at $47,660 in the past three years while Hervey is just over $1,000 behind at $46,319.

Hats off go to the Perdue event committee for putting on a top notch show their first time around. There's no one better in Canada to produce a bull riding than the crew at 3D Bull Riding either.

We look forward to coming back again next year!

Manitoba Rodeo Cowboys Association and Bull Riders Canada Inc. Announce Incentive

For Immediate Release: The MRCA and BRC are very pleased to announce an incentive aimed toward MRCA bull riders.

“The two organizations have very similar goals, that being to grow the sport and give our members more opportunity to compete and win money, this is exactly that, a chance for more of our homegrown bull riders a chance to win more money on bulls they are competing on week in and week out at other rodeos and events, all while having the chance to qualify themselves for the $20,000 plus Wrangler BRC finals slated for Lloydminster October 2nd and 3rd. We are very pleased to be partnering with the MRCA on this and look forward to what the future working relationship may look like between the organizations” said Bull Riders Canada Manitoba Director Ben Kinkead.

“We are extremely excited about this new partnership. The potential through partnerships such as this are endless. This partnership gives the MRCA bull riders the opportunity to compete in more events, getting on more bulls which in turn will help them climb the ranks of rodeo more rapidly at the same time reducing the travel required to achieve this goal. Rodeo and Bull riding events are the most affordable family entertainment around. I’m very excited to be a part of creating this opportunity for our local homegrown bull riders. We believe partnerships like this will also increase the economic impact of these events as hometown cowboys have a personal connection with the crowds and make the event more exciting.” MRCA Committee Representative, Curtis Dawydiuk.

The incentive is straight forward, as of July 26, following the Austin/Swan River rodeos the MRCA standings will be reviewed, starting at the number 1 position the bull riders will be contacted, the first two willing to accept the incentive will see themselves earn a reserved spot at the remaining 5 BRC sanctioned events in Manitoba/eastern Saskatchewan, the events being Midale, SK Aug 7, Grunthal, MB Aug 14, Eriksdale, MB Oct 10, St Rose, MB Oct 11 and Brandon, MB Oct 30. The bull riders will be required to purchase a membership but will have no chance of being drawn onto the alternate list at any of the events, with $14,000.00 added between the 5 events we feel this will be well received by the bull riders.

Bull Riders Canada Inc. Expands to East

CALGARY, Alberta -- It's official, Bull Riders Canada Inc. (BRC) has made an agreement bringing the sport of bull riding together under one umbrella from British Columbia to New Brunswick.

"On behalf of the shareholders and stakeholders of the BRC, it is truly a pleasure to be afforded the privilege of working with WildTime Productions and the Rawhide Rodeo Company," said BRC president Russell Friend.

"The vision and attention to detail exemplified by both Sylvain Bourgeois and BJ Prince are benchmarks that have helped shape the production of first-class events across Canada for decades."

The agreement co-sanctions the bull riding at events already produced by Bourgeois and Prince in Eastern Canada.

"Three years ago, Bull Riders Canada Inc. launched with the goal of becoming a true National entity and this recent agreement fulfills that mission. With this fantastic relationship, the BRC members, fans, stakeholders and sponsors have the opportunity to participate in, attend, or share their message at events from British Columbia to New Brunswick," said Friend.

"We are excited about the opportunities that the BRC is offering to bull riders competing across Canada and are pleased to be working with them in 2015," Prince and Bourgeois added.

"We are excited about the future of our industry and look to continue to develop a coast-to-coast platform for marketing, sponsorship and competitive opportunities. A true National Champion will be crowned at just the third Finals event in the company’s history and we could not be more thankful or excited," Friend concluded.

23 new events in Eastern Canada have been added to the BRC's exisiting 34 event schedule bringing the new current total to 57. The first Eastern Canadian event in BRC history is on May 2nd and 3rd in Hyacinthe, QC.

Lynx Brand Fence and CARTEL Energy Services renew Season Partnerships with Bull Riders Canada Inc.

CALGARY, Alberta -- Bull Riders Canada Inc. is excited to announce that Lynx Brand Fence and CARTEL Energy Services have each renewed as Season Partners for the 2015 Season.

"The momentum and growth of Bull Riders Canada Inc. since inception is truly something that we are thankful to have been involved with and look forward to sharing for another fantastic season," said CARTEL Energy Services President, Dean Falkenberg. "Aligning ourselves with an extreme sport that appears in the geographical areas we also serve makes sense. This partnership is a way to have a constant presence in Western Canada and has resulted in measurable growth to our business."

"We have seen our requests for quotations and services increase as a result of partnering with Bull Riders Canada Inc.," confirms Lynx Brand Fence President, Jason Madsen. "Lynx Brand Fence services the Calgary, Edmonton and Kelowna markets as does Bull Riders Canada Inc. Their exposure, reach and fan base support has resulted in a tangible return for our marketing dollar."

"Bull Riders Canada Inc. is very proud to have earned the trust and support from Lynx Brand Fence and CARTEL Energy Services for another season," said Russell Friend, Bull Riders Canada Inc. President. "These two organizations are leaders in their respective fields, operate with integrity and continue to do things that allow their companies to stand out; very similar models to Bull Riders Canada Inc. When we approached them about becoming involved in our inaugural season, we had a strategic plan, but no assurances that they would receive a fair return on their marketing dollar. The fact that both of these organizations have realized a tangible return and are excited to remain with Bull Riders Canada Inc. for another season confirms that the partnership is working."
