Coverchuk Continues Winning Streak BRANDON, Manitoba -- Bull Riders Canada rolled back into the Keystone Province the night before Halloween for stop number two of the 2016 season. Brandon, Manitoba was home to the first edition of the Wheat City Wild Bull Riding, held in conjunction with the Manitoba Ag Ex, which is the province's largest all breed cattle show.

As the start time of the event approached, Friday October 30th, it didn’t take long for the last few tickets to sell to ensure a sold out event. Unfortunately for some that meant being turned away at the door.

With the final preparations finished the crowd filed in and enjoyed what turned out to be an outstanding night of bull riding.

The long round saw eight qualified rides, highlighted by Carmen, MB BRC Finalist Steve Maddison on the Lazy S and Bonkowski bull Farm Boy Reality. That’s the same bull young William Pooyak rode for the win on Canada Day in Bengough, SK this past summer. The round one win meant heading into the short round in the driver’s seat with over $1,000 in his pocket, and a $100.00 Wrangler gift certificate courtesy of Wheat City Cowtown.

With the chance to bet on the bull rider they thought was set to win, the calcutta was well supported. Even superstar Aussie talent Josh Birks was in on the mix. Birks made one of the top rides of the long round, but was called for a slap. Birks, along with two friends, bet on Cody Coverchuk to win them some cash.

As the final round played out it was looking as though the bulls might be the ones doing the winning. That was until Coverchuk, who less than a month ago walked out of Lloydminster, SK as the BRC Finals Champ, called for the gate and took 123 Cowtown’s Funky Stuff, again from the Lazy S and Bonkowski string to a cool 87.5 mark. That meant the Meadow Lake, SK man left it up to Brandon, MB's hometown star Landon Lockhart and Maddison to beat his total of 171 points on two. After both Manitoba men came up shy of the horn, Cody was presented a new championship buckle and over $3600 cash.

The top four placings were Coverchuk in first; Maddison second thanks to his 86 in round one and Lockhart third at 84.5. Splitting fourth was current number one man in the BRC, Tim Lipsett, and Alberta's Logan Biever.
