RANCHMAN’S COOKHOUSE & DANCEHALL INC. – A Calgary Legend for 44 years!

As Ranchman’s 44th Anniversary is upon us (Est. April 28, 1972), we take this time to thank you for your patronage and support over these 44 years and look forward to serving you often in the future. The worlds of rodeo and bull riding have been very supportive over these years. For this we are truly grateful!.

Ranchman’s is the longest running free standing restaurant/honky-tonk in all of Canada. Ranchman’s is owned and operated by its original two partners, Harris Dvorkin and Kevin Baker. Opened as a self-serve cafeteria in 1972, Ranchmans has grown to be a licensed facility for 1,050 patrons nightly.

Ranchman’s walls spring live with daring and danger packed action photos of legendary showdowns between man and beast; the essence; the heart and soul spirit of the sport of rodeo. Ranchman’s proudly displays over one hundred championship saddles and bronzes of Canadian and World Champion cowboys, the ultimate in rodeo cowboy prestige. We are proud to be “a museum of rodeo memorabilia and photographs.”

Ranchmans has been forefront in the community assisting many charities as well as many pro rodeo cowboys down on their luck. We are a “honky-tonk with heart!” Ranchman’s Renegades Inc., Ranchman’s charity vehicle, has donated millions of dollars to support Southern Alberta Children in need. These charities include Project Warmth Society, Child Find Alberta, Alberta Champions Society, Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre, the Kids Cancer Care Foundation, The Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, Project 118 Youth Ranch and Providence Children’s Centre.

Ranchman’s has never swayed from a country music format. We have been named “COUNTRY CLUB OF THE YEAR” on 16 occasions, by the Canadian Country Music Association, most recently in 2012/13. Most country stars have performed our stage, both American and Canadian, on the way up the ladder of their recording careers.

Toby Keith performed here as “The Easy Money Band” in 1988. Shania Twain did her “Woman in Me C.D. Release Party at Ranchman’s. Popular US artists Eric Church, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Clay Walker, Neal McCoy all performed Ranchman’s. Thriving current Canadian artists Doc Walker, Emerson Drive, Gord Bamford, Bobby Wills, Corb Lund, Paul Brandt etc. etc. (the list is long) cut their teeth here at Ranchman’s as did many Canadian Legendary artists such as k d Lang, Ray Griff and R. Harlan Smith.

Ranchman’s was the film location for Ang Lee’s (Gangs of New York, Life of Pi fame) Academy Award winning epic romantic drama film “Brokeback Mountain” as well as the major film production “Cool Runnings” starring the late John Candy, depicting the antics of the Jamaican National Bobsled Tan during the ’88 Winter Olympics held here in Calgary. Ranchman’s was highlighted on “The Amazing Race Canada” showcasing the City of Calgary and we have held the auditions for “Big Brother Canada” on two occasions.

Ranchman’s features live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night, a mechanical bull and country dance lessons nightly. We offer a full cowboy fare menu featuring Alberta beef, ribs and chicken.

We invite you to tip back your hat and enjoy Ranchman’s authentic brand of Calgary style WESTERN HOSPITALITY!!
