Neither Rain, Nor Sleet, Nor Snow...

Lamont, Alberta -- Despite less than ideal conditions; cooler and damper than most Albertans have seen in over a month, the Lamont community came out in bunches to witness one of the longest running bull riding events in Canada. With over 950 spectators on hand, Bull Riders Canada Inc. contestant riders put on a show, outdoors, just outside of town!

After being back in Canada for less than ten days, Josh Birks, Coonamble, NSW Australia, claimed another event championship with a solid 86 point score on the back of Skori Bucking Bulls' Jawbreaker. Birks finished second in the long round behind Cody Coverchuk, Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan; who scored 83 points. As a result of winning the short round, Birks won the event average; the second “home town” event win in less than ten days. Lamont is a big deal on the Bull Riders Canada Inc. schedule because of the tradition associated with the event, the $8,000.00 in added money and the Double Point format for events with over $7,500.00 added.

Lamont Agricultural President, Aaron Wick, was extremely happy with the outcome. “We know we had pre-sold several hundred tickets in advance and several hundred more fans came out to support the dance. This event supports our community since all of the money raised stays right here in Lamont and it is fantastic! That is why we decided to stay with Bull Riders Canada...the format for production, the flexibility with membership cards and the sanction fee allowed our Ag Society to actually put an event on to raise funds and support the community that has supported us for many years!”

When asked how it felt to win the first Bull Riders Canada Inc. event since returning back to Canada, Josh Birks went on to add “...as good as always! I love the area and people around Lamont, it has been my home away from Australia. I am also going to keep working to maintain my place as the highest money winner in the BRC." With the Double Point format, Birks was able to go from outside the top 30 all the way up to the fourth spot in the BRC Standings! When asked about how that felt, Birks replied “...hopefully I keep climbing - I know I will. My goal is to win the BRC this year!” As a point of reflection, Josh Birks also won the Lamont BRC event one year ago; making him a two-time defending champion for 2017.

As a result of the Lamont event, there is a new number one man; Cody Coverchuk, Meadow Lake Saskatchewan took over the number one spot while Lane Cork, Quesnel, British Columbia sits second and the previous number one man; Landon Lockhart, Brandon, Manitoba slips slightly to the third position. The standings have changed quite a bit after the double points awarded at this event, so be sure to check out the new standings on the Bull Riders Canada Inc. website.

All of the Bull Riders Canada Inc. contestants are vying to earn a spot in the Season IV $20,000.00 added Finals which is slated for October 21st & 22nd in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan and to also be in the top five at the end of the year so they are eligible for the $5,000.00 Grudge Match following the long round on the Friday night.
