Purcell Leading Season after Spiritwood
Spiritwood, Saskatchewan - The SARCS 1st Annual Bull Riding Competition was filled with highlights; beginning with the line-up to get into the building. It was an impressive picture that was posted on social media by Announcer Dustin Edwards, where spectators were lined up out the door - through the entire parking lot - in order to be able to have a seat for the inaugural Bull Riders Canada event.
The positive energy from the eager fans was contagious, as there were ten qualified rides in the long round; one of the highest number of qualified long round rides at any bull riding event in Canada all year!

The sold out crowd was witness to a new Season Leader on the final event of season!
After leading the BRC National Standings for the majority of the season, yet not being able to compete for the past month, Josh Birks, Coonamble, NSW, Australia slipped to the number two position. Fellow Aussie Will Purcell, Merrijig, Australia, overtook Birks by scoring the highest marked ride of the evening and winning the long round of competition.
Purcell rode Rafter KO/Johnson Bucking Bulls' Smoke & Mirrors for a solid score of 85.5 points and nearly $1400.00 cash. Congratulations to Will Purcell for becoming the Season IV Leader in Points!
Thank you to Walker Johnson for submitting the clip of Purcell's ride:
Purcell had this to say about his new Season Leader position in the BRC National Standings "...it feels great, it was a goal I set for myself before I came back to Canada. It gives me confidence coming in the number one spot into the Finals because the next goal on my list is to become the BRC National Champion."
In the short round it was Shay Marks, Sunnybrook, AB with an 84.5 score on Rafter KO/Johnson Bucking Bulls' The Situation to win the short round and take home $2475.00.
Wyatt Laughlin, Pincher Creek, AB was the the eventual winner of the entire event by scoring a pair of 82.5 rides. The victory for Laughlin punched his Season IV Finals ticket and vaulted him into the 23rd spot in the BRC National Standings.
Heading into the Season IV Finals there is a legitimate chance that any one of the top five cowboys could become the BRC National Champion. It will be especially exciting to watch the Canadian Global Grudge Match on Friday, October 21st as the top five bull riders will match up against the top five bulls of the entire season...including the Season IV Bucking Bull of the Year as voted by the contestants.
Next up is our first event of Season V in Eriksdale, MB October 15th, followed by the Wrangler Bull Riders Canada Finals IV in Lloydminster, SK October 21st & 22nd...see you there!
Visit Bull Riders Canada website for complete Event Results and to view the current BRC Standings.
