Alix, Alberta, Grunthal, Manitoba, and Penticton, British Columbia - With a weekend that spanned three provinces, it was the bulls that would take the win for this weekend.
Starting off at the Alix Ice Breaker in Alix, Alberta, the Season VI National Champion Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, SK) would take the win on Bart Thompson's Hatchet with a score of 82 points. Coverchuk earns himself $1,120.00 and 200 points in the BRC Standings brought to you by Nelson Homes.
Grady Smeltzer (Claresholm, AB) took second place with an 80 point ride on Meston Rodeo Company's Black Jack, and third place went to BRC Rookie Jett Lambert (Grande Prairie, AB) after scoring 79 points on Bart Thompson's Mater.
Moving East to Grunthal, Manitoba the Cowboys see their first of two events in this location. The Keystone Agri-Motive's Spring Twist Off presented by Hanover Ag and Crossfire Bullriding was a new event added this season in conjunction with their Bullriding and Bullfighting schools.
The only man to make a qualified ride at this event would be Aaron Roy - and he would qualify on both his long round bull, Lazy S Bucking Bulls' Dancing Chicken for 81 points, as well as his Purpus Vodka Championship Round Bull, who also belongs to Lazy S, Brindle Bob. Aaron's score on Brindle Bob was a solid 86 and earned him $2,700.00. At the end of the Spring Twist Off event, Roy took home $5,075.00 and 800 points for his 167 score on two.
Heading back West to Penticton, British Columbia, the Bulls would continue their rein at the Penticton Speedway Bull A Rama, and we would again see only one Cowboy to make eight. Another one of the boys vying for the Rookie of the Year Title presented by TFB Leather, Isaac Mack (Kamloops, BC) was that man.
Mack rode S&E Bucking Bulls' Trigger Happy for the win with a score of 82 points in Round One of Competition. When it came time for the Purpus Vodka Championship Round Two, the bulls were victorious and that would leave Isaac to take home the winnings from that round as well.
When all was done at the Speedway, Isaac Mack walked away with $4125.00 more cash in his pocket, and 300 points.
